Journey of Coffeebeans
If you asked us where the coffee beans in your cappuccino came from, we’d likely be able to tell you. The journey that those beans take to end up in your perfect cup is a story worth sharing. The workers on our estates are a dedicated team. During harvest season, they visit each coffee plant multiple times, carefully picking only the berries that are perfectly ripe—not too early, not too late.
Once harvested, the beans are meticulously roasted until we hear the second ‘pop,’ a signal that they’re just right. Then comes the grinding. We know the best coffee comes from freshly ground beans. That’s why at Coffeebeans, you’ll hear the grinder whirring for just 15 to 20 seconds for each shot of espresso.
Finally, we reach the last step: transforming those finely ground beans into your perfect cup. There’s a choice in how we do that too. At Coffeebeans, we use pressurized steam to create a shot of espresso, but you can achieve the same result with our convenient stovetop espresso maker. In this method, boiling water from the lower chamber rises through the coffee grounds, producing a rich brew that collects in the upper chamber—ready for a coffee lover’s enjoyment. For best results, remember to take the pot off the heat before the coffee boils over.
If you prefer a more hands-on approach, the French press might be your style. With this method, you take the plunger, press it down, and mix the coffee grounds with water to create a strong, robust brew.
Coffee and Health
Alright, this is where we tell you things you might already know, but just in case you don’t: caffeine has been put through some serious testing by the tireless researchers at MIT. What did they find? Well, it turns out caffeine is a ‘mind-boosting mood enhancer.’ Sounds like something you could use, right? But there’s more! Caffeine not only sharpens mental performance, it also improves reaction time and attention span.
Ever wonder why all your best ideas seem to come when you’re sitting at a Coffeebeans café? That’s why!
And here’s a bonus: drinking coffee can reduce the risk of certain cancers, cirrhosis of the liver, and other unpleasant health issues that we won’t get into here. But trust us, it’s true. So go ahead, enjoy that coffee, stay happy, and stay healthy!
HOW IT WORKS
Ever wonder how coffee gives your brain that boost? Here’s the secret! Normally, a chemical called adenosine binds to receptors in your brain, making you feel sleepy. But when caffeine (the magic ingredient in coffee) comes into play, it takes adenosine’s place and attaches to those receptors instead. Your brain then thinks something urgent is happening, which makes the pituitary gland trigger the release of adrenaline. On top of that, caffeine also increases dopamine, the “feel-good” chemical. This combination is what creates the caffeine high you know so well. Pretty cool, right? Time for more coffee!
